Frauds and Scams

Please review the previous articles on Identity Theft, etc., on the Police Portion of this website.  Closely check your bank statements each month.  Do your credit checks each year as permitted, with the Major Credit Bureaus listed.

Do not give out personal information to someone you do not know.  Ask for a business card, or other info about the business.  And, then check with the Grand Rapids based Better Business Bureau to see if they have any complaints listed against the Company.  You may also check appropriate Michigan Government Sites to see if the business is appropriately licensed.  The County Clerk may also be able to tell you if the business is licensed.  DO NOT give your hard earned money up front, before the service is provided.  Most reputable businesses will encourage you to check them out and feel comfortable before money exchanges hands.

Merry Christmas

The Officers of the Pville Police Department wish all our citizens a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday Season.  Let's join together to make it a safe Holiday.  Always wear your seat belt, properly fastened, and use the appropriate car seat for children under 4 years of age.

Please drive more slowly when the roads are snow covered or icy.  Leave early for school or work.  Remember, the 55 or 45 MPH zones are for perfect roads only!  The basic speed law requires you to slow down to a speed which will allow you to come to a safe stop under adverse conditions.

Please obey the "Reduce Speed" signs such as along Shelp Lake on Pine Lake, and Cressey near Enzian.

Also remember to slow down when you see an emergency vehicle ahead with its emergency lights flashing.  A wrecker is also classified as an emergency vehicle now.

Meth Lab Pop Bottle Found at side of road
A plastic pop bottle was found just off the Road near 4 Mile and Enzian last night, 10-5-07.  The bottle had some coiled plastic tubing coming out of its top.  It had red like crystals inside.  Pville Officers immediately recognized it as probably Meth Lab related.  A Decon Team was dispatched and the item safely removed.

This was our first meth material dump in almost two years.  Out last Lab Arrest was in 2004

This was unusual, in that a Meth Dump usually contains as much as 2-3 large garbage bags full of used Meth Lab materials.  This was only one item, possibly fell from a pickup bed or car.

CAUTION:  PLEASE WARN YOUR CHILDREN OF THE DANGERS OF LITTER FOUND AT THE SIDE OF COUNTRY ROADS.  ANYTHING SUSPICIOUS SHOULD BE REPORTED VIA 911

Credit Card Used Overseas 10/27/2006
We received a call today from a resident reporting their Capital One Credit Card had been used in a Foreign Country. We took all the information available and made a local Police Report, resident was given a local Complaint Number.

PLEASE DON'T FALL FOR THESE MAIL, INTERNET AND TELEPHONE SCAMS!

I HATE CLICHES, BUT IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT IS (not it probably is).

Talk to a Trust Friend or Relative, show them what you have been offered. Get their advice, call the Better Business Bureau, call us. DON'T GIVE OUT YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY, BANK ACOUNT, DRIVERS LICENSE, AND OTHER NUMBERS TO ANYONE WITHOUT ABSOLUTE AUTHENTICATION.
