Follow the directions to make reports to the Federal Trade Commission, FBI, and Secret Service as available. Notify the Credit Bureaus as listed. Notify the local Better Business Bureau. Each of these agencies have a link to the left of our news page to click on. This places your complaint on file should something come up again! It also helps Federal Agencies to track "similiar" type crimes and launch Federal Investigations if appropriate.
Many Foreign Countries do not cooperate with U.S. Investigations.
Your Credit Card Company usually absorbs the monetary loss. Check the "fine print" on the back of your credit card and the application papers.
Your first contacts should be all of your financial banks, credit card companies, etc. Have them place an "alert" on your accounts.
Always watch your accounts very closely for unusual activity.
